Singapore, 27 February 2018 – Far East Hospitality, Singapore’s leading operator of hotels and serviced residences, kickstarted the new year with the launch of its ‘Made-in-Singapore’ project. A first-of-its kind, the project saw students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) designing an exclusive ‘Made-in-Singapore’ room for each of Far East Hospitality’s Village Hotel.
The inaugural project, which is part of students’ school curriculum, aims to connect Singapore’s modern metropolis culture to its native heritage. Third-year 3D Design students from NAFA’s Interior & Exhibition diploma course will be designing rooms for Village Hotel Albert Court and Village Hotel Bugis, while a mix of students majoring in the Bachelor of Hospitality Business with Honours and Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design with Honours from SIT will be conceptualizing rooms for Village Hotel Changi and Village Hotel Katong.
As part of the project requirements, participating students visited the hotels and explored its enclaves. This allowed them to draw inspiration from the property’s surroundings such as the Village Hotel Katong’s Peranakan precinct, and Village Hotel Bugis’ Arab and Indian heritage district.
“Travellers today are looking out for authenticity and unique local offerings,” said Mr Arthur Kiong, Chief Executive Officer of Far East Hospitality. “To cater to these travellers’ needs, we started the ‘Made-in-Singapore’ project where our Village Hotels will connect travellers with Singapore’s varied cultural and ethnic enclaves. The six-month long project, in line with the Singapore Tourism Board’s latest “Passion made Possible” brand campaign, will provide travellers with an interpretation of Singapore-inspired hospitality.”
Students have submitted their proposal with room concepts that reflect the multi-racial, heritage, and history of Singapore. Their works are currently undergoing judging by a panel made up the Area General Manager of Village Hotels, Project Teams from Far East Hospitality, and Village Hotel Managers. Judges will shortlist winners based on creativity, interpretation of Singapore-inspired hospitality, and ability to highlight Village’s brand positioning of “Live Like a Local”.
Each Village Hotel will see three winning designs. These shortlisted winners will be rewarded with:
1st (Overall winner): S$1,000 and one-night stay in winning Village Hotel room
2nd: S$500 and one-night stay in winning Village Hotel room
3rd: One-night stay in Village Hotel room (up to four-room nights for the hotel stay)
Far East Hospitality will work with the overall winners of each Village Hotel in sourcing and installation to bring concepts to life in the room. Retrofitting of rooms are expected to complete by June 2018.
